Biography

Is among the most brilliant cellists trained by Mstislav Rostropovich. In 1974 he won the Second Prize at the V International Tchaikovsky Competition. From that time on he has toured throughout Europe, America and Japan. He is one of the leading performers of avant-garde music and also conducts. He is a professor at the Basel Academy of Music. Since 2010 he has been the Artistic Director of the Viva Cello International Festival in Basel.
