The extract shown here shows the famous scene where Princess Aurora, on her sixteenth birthday, pricks her finger before entering into a deep sleep, and succumbing to the spell cast by the wicked fairy godmother. This production, directed by Dame Ninette de Valois, is very emblematic of the Royal Ballet of London, as it marked the beginnings of the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House, where they remain as the resident company since 1946.
