Composition date:

1975

About

Symphony No. 3 in D Major was written over two summer months of 1875 in the estate of Vladimir Shilovsky. “The Polish Symphony” as it is referred to, got its’ name from August Manns, who played the piece in the United Kingdom first in 1899 and dubbed it that thereafter. Symphony No. 3 is the only symphony containing five movements, all the others containing four. The Symphony was premiered in Moscow in November of 1875, making the piece one of Tchaikovsky's quickest times from pen-to-baton.
