Denis Matsuev won the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1998. This year, he is a jury member in the piano category, and opened the Opening Gala concert of June 15 with a speech that he delivered next to Valery Gergiev (chairman of the Competition's organizing committee).
He gave us an interview in the Moscow Conservatory's artistic room, where the musicians practice before going on stage. In this video, Denis Matsuev talks about the Tchaikovsky Competition, its audience, the way it changed his own career in 1998. And of course, he wishes good luck to all the contestants!
