Biography


 

He is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory and has pursued a post-graduate work with the oboe. He began his career as a professional musician with the Moscow Virtuosi under the baton of Vladimir Spivakov, and he brought the oboe to centre stage as a solo instrument.

 

In 2000 Alexey Utkin founded the Hermitage Chamber Orchestra. In 2010 he became leader of the State Chamber Orchestra of Russia. He performs with it as both conductor and soloist while maintaining the traditions established by its founder, Rudolf Barshai. He plays an instrument made specially for him by the renowned French craftsmen at the F. Lorée firm, and it is one of the rarest instruments of its kind in the world. Mr. Utkin is a professor at the Moscow Conservatory.
