He was born in Milan and studied music there. He was instructed in conducting by Sergiu Celibidache and Carlo Maria Giulini among others.
In 1999 he was recruited by Martin Engström to assist in creating the Verbier Festival Orchestra, for which he was Assistant Conductor to David Levine and collaborated with such guest conductors as Jiří Belohlávek, Gustavo Dudamel, Charles Dutoit, Paavo Järvi, Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano, Gianandrea Noseda, Mikhail Pletnev, Mstislav Rostropovich, Yuri Temirkanov and many more.
He is founder of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and is a regular guest conductor for the Novaya Rossiya Orchestra.
