Biography

Graduate of the Hellenic Conservatory. He became known worldwide after his victory in the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki (1985) and the Paganini Competition in Genoa (1988). From 2007 to 2009 he was Artistic Director of the Camerata Salzburg chamber orchestra. He performs all over the world in solo recitals and accompanied by leading orchestras. His discography includes releases on Sony Classical, Dynamic, BIS, ECM and Decca Classics. In 2014 he was designated Artist of the Year by Gramophone magazine.
