On May 7, as part of Tchaikovsky's 175th birthday celebrations, Maestro Valery Gergiev took the Mariinsky Orchestra to Moscow. An all Tchaikovsky programme was performed by the musicians, who were joined by world-class pianist Denis Matsuev, who is also a past prizewinner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition (he won the First Prize of the 11th Competition in 1998 at the age of 23).
Known for his extraordinary talent and endurance, often compared to an athlete, Denis Matsuev performed Tchaikovsky's three piano concerti in a row! The highly anticipated performance was broadcast live on medici.tv on May 7 at 13:00 (Moscow time) and is now available in free replay.
